Bocce Ball Tailgate Game

During football season, your fun isn’t limited to tailgating at the game. Create an outdoor entertainment zone in your own yard. These three ideas will help get the tailgate celebration going.

First up, get competitive with this list of lawn games:

Console Bar

After playing a few rounds, you’ll want to queue up for the game with your own 50-yard-line seating. In this fan zone, you can capture all your favorite football moments. Set the scene with flowers to match your favorite team’s colors and these items:

Grill Cart

Spark up the gridiron grill and serve all your football food favorites, such as ribs, wings and guacamole (see recipe below).

If you’ve got time to tackle a fun project, learn how to make a DIY grill cart, and check out additional ideas from The Home Depot Blog.

Here’s a checklist to help get the grilling zone in your yard ready for the game:

Now that you have your entertainment zone set up, get the tailgate food ready, turn on the game and cheer on your team.

Guacamole and chips

Game Day Guacamole

No tailgate is complete without game day food. Try this easy guacamole appetizer using fresh ingredients, including cilantro and tomatoes right from your own garden!

  • 4 ripe avocados
  • 1/2 onion, minced
  • 1 Roma tomato, diced
  • Splash of fresh lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

With a sharp paring knife, slice avocados in half along the length. Remove and discard pits. With a spoon, scoop out the flesh of 3 avocados and place into a bowl. Using the knife, cut the avocados into chunks.

Squeeze a splash of fresh lime juice over avocados. Lightly smash the mixture until it’s more dip-like. Add minced onion, diced tomato and salt and pepper to taste. Slice the remaining avocado into chunks and add to mixture. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve right away with tortilla chips.
