Grubs are a serious pest and can kill your lawn. Ravenous from day one, they live to do nothing but eat. They eat the roots and the stems off your lawn grasses, killing them until they turn into ugly brown patches. Unless you control the grubs now, they’ll infest your entire lawn by summer’s end and turn into beetles that destroy your plants and flowers.

This is why smart homeowners use proactive methods as a preventative and protective part of their spring lawn care chores.

Here’s How to De-Grub Your Lawn:

  1. First, look for grubs. They look like cooked macaroni. If you have brown grass patches, look for pencil-thin holes on the soil surface. Or lift the sod to see if any are just beneath the surface. Look for them at night, on top of the soil.
  2. Choose a product that works for you. Granular products are easy to apply with your drop spreader. Liquid base or soluble crystals you mix and apply are sprayed onto the lawn.
  3. Apply to a dry lawn. Make sure sprinklers are turned off.
  4. Adjust your spreader to the application rate recommended on the package.
  5. Wear safety glasses and a face mask to protect against granule dust.
  6. Fill the hopper with grub killer.
  7. Carefully apply grub killer to the entire lawn.
  8. Water heavily to activate the product, but do not allow water to run off into other areas.
  9. Keep kids and pets off the lawn until the lawn grass has dried.
  10. Return left over grub killer to the original container and store in a cool, dry place.
