For ours, we repurposed this vintage-looking basket by pulling out the liner and fitting the stems of hydrangeas and greenery cut from the yard inside the basket for a door wreath arrangement.

Whether you plant succulentsflowers, herbs such as the lavender above, evergreen shrubs or hosta in containers your porch will come to life and say someone “lives” here.

8. Build a layered look

Of course you can go all out to get your desired look. Or, you can also add layers over time. Start small with a patio conversation set or bistro table and chairs, then add a few pieces each season.

Little by little, your porch and outdoor sanctuary can come together with patio umbrellas, side tables, throw pillows, hammocks and ottomans. Don’t forget a fire pit or other fire feature, potted plants and landscaping materials, such as stepping stones or pea pebbles for a pretty garden path or walkway to pull together your space.
