Feed Lawn Now - ST -580x330

Warm-weather grasses such as Bermuda, Bahia, St. Augustine and Zoysia are perfect for warm climates because they take the heat and are fast growers. These grasses go dormant in the cold, but they aren’t dead.

Giving your lawn a last feeding now, before the first cold snap hits, will help it to survive the cold months. You’ll have deeper, stronger roots, which will result in a thicker, healthier lawn come spring.

Fertilize Warm-Weather Grasses in Fall:

  1. Choose a winter lawn fertilizer for warm-weather grasses that’s high in nitrogen (N) and has very little or no potassium (P), like 32-0-10. Look for a fertilizer with iron to help feed and strengthen Southern lawns, helping them withstand heat and drought.
  2. Apply fertilizer with a broadcast spreader. Apply half of the fertilizer in horizontal rows and the other half in vertical rows.
  3. Run a sprinkler over the lawn for 30 minutes to encourage the fertilizer to soak in.
