For a lush lawn, boost warm-weather grasses, such as Bahia and St. Augustine, before cooler weather sets in. A bit of the right fertilizer now helps keep them looking good come spring.
How to Fertilize Bahia or St. Augustine Grasses in Fall:
- Choose a lawn fertilizer for warm-weather grasses that’s high in nitrogen (N) and has very little or no potassium (P), like 32-0-10. Look for a fertilizer with iron to help feed and strengthen Bahia or St. Augustine grasses, helping withstand heat and drought.
- Apply fertilizer with a broadcast spreader. Apply half of the fertilizer in horizontal rows and the other half in vertical rows.
- Run a sprinkler over the lawn for 30 minutes to encourage the fertilizer to soak in.
