As the song says, “Summertime, and the living is easy.” That is, as long as the heat doesn’t stop you from spending time on your patio. When the temperatures rise and the sun beats down, it’s hard to enjoy entertaining, dining or even lounging outside. For easy, instant shade, try an attractive patio umbrella, gazebo or other pergola.

Hampton Bay’s Harper Gazebo is an attractive choice for hosting a garden party or just spending quiet time in the backyard. Constructed with a hard-top double roof and a powder-coated steel frame, it resists rust and withstands strong winds and heavy rains.

This durable gazebo measures 10 by 10 feet when assembled, providing plenty of covered gathering space.

Think you might do a little stargazing on summer nights? Opt for a pergola with a retractable canopy, also made by Hampton Bay. This 9-1/2-by-9-1/2-foot structure is made of long-lasting aluminum and steel and sports a brown finish. Pull out the weather-resistant polyester canopy when you want shade, or close it to enjoy the sunshine.

Grow climbing plants or vines on the pergola, and it makes an attractive shaded walk or passageway. Place it near an outlet, and it’s easy to decorate with twinkling lights for a dinner party or other special occasion.

If you have limited space on your patio or deck, but you need protection from the sun, set up a Hampton Bay Solar-Powered Umbrella. Available in tan or brown, the canopy, which measures 11 feet in diameter, features a solar cell on the top that charges during the day. Leave the umbrella open at dusk, and it illuminates with 40 LED lights for evening gatherings.

Made of aluminum and steel, with a UV-protected Olefin canopy, the umbrella is easy to tilt, so you can stay in the shade as the sun moves across the sky.

For a splash of color as well as cooling power, try Hampton Bay’s 9-foot Aluminum Patio Umbrella in Chili Stripe. The sturdy aluminum frame is powder-coated to resist rust, while the canopy is made of weather- and fade-resistant fabric.

A push-button mechanism lets you tilt the umbrella into one of three different positions, so you can retreat into the shade when the light changes. The umbrella’s bright stripes also provide a pop of color for any patio space.

If flies and other stinging, biting insects threaten to disrupt your outdoor fun, escape with an Arrow Gazebo by Hampton Bay. This 10-by-10-foot steel-framed structure comes with UV-resistant mosquito netting that can be lowered to keep the bugs from, well, bugging you.

Tie up the netting when the pests are gone, and the polyester canopy on top continues to shield you from sun and rain. Use the four corner shelves inside the gazebo to hold plants, snacks or decorative items.

How will you chill out this summer? You’ve got lots of great choices to help you keep your cool.
