Learn how to build a window box planter surrounded by a decorative trellis.

This window box planter project takes two to four hours to build but it is worth the effort.

When planted with brightly colored flowers, the window box planter project creates a cottage-style garden. It’s also a pretty way to decorate around a window.

After building your own window box planter, you can fill it with a variety of flowers and plants, including any of these thrillers, fillers and spillers.

Additionally, you could plant herbs, such as lavender, thyme, oregano and basil, so long as it’s in a sunny spot. You could also try adding clematis underneath so the beautiful flowering vines climb around the trellis.

In the right season, you could stuff your window box with a variety of edible greens, such as a mix of greens, including lettuce, swiss chard and spinach.
